dearDIEry,
I promised you the first day drama, here it is...
We boarded the plane in Miami and after experiencing the longest and most uncomfortable flight ever (thanks to the guy beside me, who was blowing his nose incessantly during sleep time), we finally touched down in London. There is a problem at the gate, so we are stuck in the plane for longer than we would have wanted. Finally, the doors open, we exit and form the long queue to explain why exactly we decided to come to the country, and for how long we intend to be here.
Heaven's sake, it's Sunday, where's the sunshine? Forget that girl - you are in England, where everyday is Greyday. Arrgh. Ok. I see him, my ride, head buried in his phone, while I struggled with my two overweight suitcases and hand luggage to meet him. We exchange hugs and he splits the load in half as we make our way to the vehicle. The whole two hour car ride was entertaining. The McDonald's meal was interesting - I'm not loving it. He buys me a phone and a sim card. Wow! Jesus, thank you!
We pull up to my accommodation, collect the keys, drop the luggage in the room and off we go again. He's taking me to link up with this long time friend of his, who happens to hail from the same district as my father's side of family - that makes him family, right? We got to his house (finally after a few wrong attempts) and the aroma of Jamaican Sunday dinner welcomes us inside. We chat, laugh and then collected our food to go, because he had to go home (the threat from his wife was a serious joke). He drops me off, I tell him thanks and he drives away.
Back up in my room, I started unpacking and making the place look and feel a little like home. After all, it will be home, for the next year or so...
Stay tuned for more.
Cheers,
Davene
