dearDIEry,
Wow, the day is finally here. I finally get the chance to go to church, after what feels like forever. Arrangements were made prior, and in a matter of minutes, I will be in the house of the Lord. Great! Now, let us begin our morning like we usually do (with a prayer and the verse of the day - I usually read the whole chapter). That morning's verse was Psalm 62:5 "My soul wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him".
The phone call came. He said he was outside my building and I hurried to meet him. Like a true gentleman, he alighted from his vehicle, gave me the warmest British hug ever (while letting me know he does NOT do church people handshakes), and then proceeded to open the door for me and place the seatbelt in my hand as soon as I was seated. He then closed my door and went over to his side. The conversation ensued and you could have sworn I knew this man from ages, even though I was just meeting him for the first time that morning.
As he spoke though, I felt a little nervous, wondering if the church I was about to go to was where I should be each Sunday. We arrived at the church and as soon as I sat down, my eyes caught glimpse of a banner on the right wall of the building with the words of Psalm 62:5 (NLT) inscribed on it. Instantly, I felt a confirmation and peace, that indeed I was where I ought to be. It still amazes me how my God is interested with even the smallest concerns that I have, even if they are unspoken.
I was being introduced to the few people who happened to be at church before the start of the service. The introduction by the fine gentleman (who happens to have the same surname as I do), was either him telling the church members that I come from their district (in Jamaica) or that I am an author (which he discovered from my Whatsapp image and thus recognized that we had the same surname).
The people were warm and friendly, but not the building, For some unknown reason, the heaters in the building were malfunctioning and the supplementary ones that were installed never did justice to provide warmth to our bodies. But thank God the old song rings true "When it's winter, it is summer in my heart".
Stay tuned for more.
Cheers,
Davene
